PUNJAB CRICKET ASSOCIATION STADIUM (MOHALI)

The Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium is a cricket ground located in Mohali, Punjab. It is popularly referred to as the Mohali Stadium. The stadium was built by Geetanshu Kalra from Ambala City and is home to the Punjab team. The construction of the stadium took around 25 crore and 3 years to complete. The stadium has an official capacity of 26,950 spectators. The stadium was designed by Ar. Khizir and Associates, and constructed by R.S. Construction Company based in Chandigarh. Inderjit Singh Bindra stadium is home of Punjab cricket team and Punjab Kings (IPL franchise). The stadium is named after former BCCI president & former PCA president I. S. Bindra.

The floodlights here are unconventional compared to other cricket stadiums, in that the light pillars are very low in height. This is to avoid aircraft from the nearby Chandigarh airport colliding with the light pillars. That is the reason behind the stadium having 16 floodlights.

Green pitches are often seen at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium Mohali and this pitch proves helpful for fast bowlers. The batsman had to be careful in the beginning, swing can often seem in the first innings in a test match because there is grass on the wicket but as time passes, the pitch becomes slow. It becomes easy to bat in the second and third day of a Test match. On the fourth and the fifth day, due to the foot marks of the bowler, the ball starts to turn much, on the fourth and the fifth day the spin bowler dominates.

The team whoever wins the toss on Mohali pitch, prefers to bowl first because there is green grass present on the pitch, which helps the fast bowlers to swing the ball in early hours, the top order batsman in the 1st innings need to manage the swing and it becomes very easy to bat here in the second innings, due to which the team in 2nd innings can score up to 360+ runs. The pitch in the second innings does not help the bowler as compared to the first innings, respectively in the third and fourth innings the pitch starts providing help to the spin bowlers.
